My name is Marcel. I’m an independent IT systems administrator with over 30 years of experience working with Apple computers. I began my journey into personal computing at the age of 14, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall, with my first computer, a Commodore C64. By 1991, I had moved on to the Commodore Amiga, and in the spring of 1994, I gained my first hands-on experience with a Mac, a Power Macintosh 6100 running System 7. Throughout the 1990s, I also explored alternative operating systems such as BeOS, Solaris, and IRIX at the university, even as my work in a small publishing company relied primarily on Mac OS 8 and 9. In 1996, Apple’s acquisition of NeXT and the adoption of the NeXTSTEP operating system laid the groundwork for OS X and later iOS, shaping the modern Apple ecosystem I continue to work with today.
